Jacob Sieckman is a saxophonist, composer, arranger, and music educator. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from New England Conservatory of Music in May 2014. In 2013 he was the recipient of the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts merit recipient for tenor. His teaching experience includes private lessons, teachers assistant in aural training, and he assisted with the New England Conservatory Youth Jazz Orchestra. His community involvement includes organizing a series of performances at local long-term care facilities, and volunteering at Junior High Schools to produce a series of holiday arrangements for the schools’ annual Christmas concert and presented general music workshops for students in grades K-8. At present he attends Arizona State University for a Masters in Music Education.
He comes from a musical family and growing up he was introduced to jazz and classical music genres. He was active as a youth in the Phoenix metropolis playing with Young Sounds, Catch a Rising Star Program, The Nash, Kerr Culture Center, ASU Latin Jazz Camp at IJEA (Canada), All State, and other various venues and festivals. He was a Merit award winner with the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts both in composition and jazz performance on tenor saxophone. He received numerous scholarships from Young Sounds and Jazz in Arizona. During high school he studied composition privately with Mike Crotty.
Jacob received a partial merit scholarship on tenor saxophone to attend New England Conservatory in Boston and earned his degree in jazz studies (2014). While attending NEC he studied with Jerry Bergonzi as his primary teacher. Also, he studied with Donny McCaslin, Frank Carlberg, Bob Nieske, John Mcneil, Hankus Netsky, Joe Morris, and Ken Schaphorst. His combo coaches included Frank Carlberg, John Mcneil, Bob Moses, Joe Morris, and Cecil Mcbee. At NEC, Jacob was a member of the NEC Jazz Band, NEC Composers Orchestra, played with the Dave Holland Ensemble, and guest artist Donny McCaslin. He has participated in clinics with Dave Holland, Wayne Bergeron, Bruce Forman, James Moody, Eric Alexander, Fred Strum, Gordon Goodwin, Bryce Winston, Jason Moran, Ben Monder, Rebecca Maelon, Tony Malaby, Alan Carter, Bob Curnow, John Stowell, Eric Marienthal, and Lee Konitz.
He has returned to Phoenix, Arizona and pursues a master in music education degree. He continues to perform, teach, compose, and arrange.
